During the mid-2010s, vaporwave supergroup Death's Dynamic Shroud was primarily involved in the creation of singularly themed, heavily VGM-inspired mixtapes. While much happened after that, the term that they coined for their signature style of work, 'Nuwrld', became a testing ground for some other artists in the vapor scene to expand upon. As the members of the group moved forward to new projects and ideas, others in the vaporwave scene chose to tinker with the concepts that were left behind.

Among all these fan albums laid 'BETWEEN SPIRITS', which carried on the legacy of the mixtapes before it with lovingly selected samples, exquisite effects work, and a deceptively simple approach towards structuring its tracks. The smaller breadth of artists who were able to truly recreate the nuances of Nuwrld proved that this style of vaporwave was still difficult to create well, which only makes the work done on 'BETWEEN SPIRITS' all the more impressive.

Fans of VGM sampling in vapor will find themselves directly at home within this, as the curated and repainted textures of the tracks manage to make different genres from this expansive source of samples into a cohesive experience. Ethereal, mysterious, adventurous. A return to a realm long forgotten, both in its own scope and its relation to Nuwrld (and vaporwave itself).
